HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES
The mission of the Health and Human Services Facet is to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources. The Raritan Valley (NJ) Chapter, HHS Facet has led and developed numerous health-related projects and programs. We also partner with our Services to Youth Facet through the Health Links program and the Upward Bound program, encouraging and inspiring young people to enter the STEAM Professions.
Linkages to Life: Organ, Tissue and Bone Marrow Donation Awareness Signature Program. The RVC Health and Human Services Facet delivers an annual Donor Sabbath program that has reached hundreds of members of the community.
Cancer Awareness: RVC Links members support Sister2Sister, an organization which seeks to eradicate inequities and reduce cancer screening disparities, through participation in the annual Sister2Sister walk to fight breast cancer.
National Oral Health Initiative: Several of our chapter members recently traveled on a mission trip to Jamaica to provide dental care, in an effort to address ongoing disparities and inequities in oral health among adults and children.
Cardiovascular Disease (HeartLinks Signature Program): Our HHS Facet hosts an annual “Go Red Day” activity, to raise awareness regarding cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease in women.
Mental and Physical Health: The Raritan Valley Chapter of the Links, Incorporated also promotes wellness for seniors. We have developed a program whereby we visit a senior living center to provide manicures, hand massages and camaraderie.
Our chapter also partners with seniors who knit to provide caps for elementary school children to wear in the cold weather. The goal is to engage the seniors in helping children but also to promote wellness for children by reducing school absenteeism due to lack of appropriate cold-weather clothing.
