The mission of the Health and Human Services (HHS) Facet is to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources. By working to improve services for African American women with breast cancer,  promoting awareness of childhood obesity and promoting    organ/tissue donation within the African American community, its mission is to decrease health disparities within New Jersey.

HHS has four basic goals. The first is to increase services for African American women with breast cancer.  The objectives associated with this goal include raising funds for and promoting The Sisters Network, a non-profit organization that services African American women with breast cancer. The second goal is to increase community health education with respect to organ and tissue donations.   Successfully implementing Donor Sabbath and bringing youth of color to the state’s donor organization on an annual basis comprise the objectives for the second goal.  The final goal is to increase awareness of healthy lifestyle strategies.  This goal was supported by objectives that consisted of presenting workshops promoting health and wellness to seniors and youth within the African American community.
